De Vries Carpentry was established by its owner Thomas de Vries in 1995, who started off as an apprentice carpenter at South African Railway and Harbours in 1980. After qualifying in 1983 he worked for the SAR&H until 1984 when he joined the Bloemfontein Town Council working as a maintenance carpenter until 1987. In 1988 Thomas became a building inspector for the Midrand Town Council where he gained extensive experience in the building industry.
